The University of Delaware as one of the pioneers of the Internet, is a great place to put the communications and networking knowledge into play. Besides of my research, I also:

  • Implemented and deployed the EAP/TTLS centralized authentication mechanism through a RADIUS server for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
  • Characterized wireless cellular routers and started the project of a real-time GPS tracking system for the University of Delaware buses.
  • Configured the Google Search Appliance for improvement of crawling and indexing of University web pages.

Impsat Colombia (Now Global Crossing)

At the Impsat's Networks Operations Center (NOC), 85% of Colombian data traffic is monitored and controlled. During my stay at Impsat I:

  • Installed and pointed satellite (VSAT) and radio (point-to-point) antennas.
  • Configured modems for data connectivity over satellite, radio and copper.
  • Configured multiplexed (SDH, Frame Relay, ATM and TDM) circuits in the network, and installed hardware for them
  • Supported customers and contractors to remotely achieve the previous bullets.
  • Tested reliability of the network, from physical layers, up to transport layers.

During my internship with Nortel Networks, I supported the main telecommunications company of the Colombian government, Telecom. My responsibilities included:

  • Programming translation tables on DMS-100i central offices.
  • Customer support to Telecom engineers.
  • Provide solutions to maximize benefit of both customers and Nortel.
  • After the intership, I developed a subscriber line diagnostics system, which included analog and digital microcontrolled hardware and its corresponding GUI.
